Laguna Madre Redfish on Fly

With Captain Mark Machado

We launched at the end of the Aldoph Thomae Park on the Arroyo Colorado, and turned into the skinny back bays of the Lower Laguna Madre to pole around, and eventually jump off and walk wade the shores for more stealth. That worked for me, as you can see by this redfish I caught on my walk. I am not sure how long it actually was, but I would guess it at 28-inches.

Redfish are more active and there are bigger numbers on the west side of the Lower Laguna Madre during the “colder” months in South Texas. And if you think about it? It should remind you of the fact that freshwater bodies, like Texas lakes, also heat up on the west side first, and are generally warmer because they get the sun rays from the first light of day, right?

Captain Machado is most “famous” for his nighttime snook prowess in the Brownsville Ship Channel, but unfortunately he is headed out of Country at the publishing of this video. As impractical as it sounds to me, I will be giving the whole nighttime snook thing a go – solo soon! Say a prayer.
